ARC Institute

ARC Institute provides a platform for students, faculty, and staff from Simon Fraser University to work side by side with professionals from government agencies to tackle important and multifaceted questions in aquatic science.

Our History

ARC Institute (formerly the Cooperative Resource Management Institute) was created in 1998 to facilitate the connection of academic and government scientists and is modelled after cooperative programs within US universities. Students benefit from co-mentorship by both university and agency scientists, gain experience working with government employees, and are trained for successful careers in natural resource management. We are currently focused on graduate student training and scientific research.

Our Goals

ARC Institute provides a platform for students, faculty, and staff from Simon Fraser University to work side by side with professionals from government agencies to tackle important and multifaceted questions in aquatic science.

We aim to:

1. Train the next generation of aquatic ecosystem scientists. Our students have the opportunity to train alongside agency scientists as well as learn cutting-edge scientific tools from across the Institute’s professional network.

2. Perform research that addresses critical and emergent issues in aquatic science to inform species management and conservation.

3. Provide a platform to facilitate collaboration and communication on key issues in aquatic ecosystem stewardship.
